Perinatal Substance Use Disorder Bundle Results: Colorado's Portfolio Approach

Learn how Colorado used a portfolio approach to support implementation of the AIM Care for Pregnant and Postpartum Patients with Substance Use Disorder Patient Safety Bundle during this session with Sarah Briley and Rebecca Alderfer from the Colorado Perinatal Care Quality Collaborative (CPCQC). This portfolio approach integrates tools that address SUD stigma, clinical workflows, emergency readiness, and data-driven improvement. The session will analyze how complementary strategies—including the Field Guide, OMNI reporting, Quick Care Cards, Breaking SUD Stigma education, and naloxone simulation drills—can accelerate bundle adoption and improve reliability across hospital teams. Speakers will summarize key outcomes and lessons from CPCQC’s Turning the Tide initiative and related perinatal SUD efforts that may inform state-level maternal safety work, including a return on investment analysis of clinical quality improvement.

The session will also include Katie Fiske, BA CAS, a patient family partner from MoMMAs Voices, who will share her inspiring story, with the aim to enhance patient-provider partnerships and improve overall maternal health outcomes.
